Washing of Clothes
Those Who Can Stand In God’s Presence!
Those Who Will Look On His Face!!
And the Lord said to Moses, Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes, Exodus 19: 10
God is telling them to get ready for Him to come down the mountain.
That they need to wash their clothes to be in His Presence.
Now, first, this is a practical order.
For they had been wandering the desert for three months after being set free from Egypt.
They needed to be cleaned up.
And it is expected that if people are going to enter the presence of a King that they would dress up, look good.
How much more for God!
But then He tells them to be ready by the third day.
This speaks of Jesus Christ.
This alludes, refers, starts to prepare the people to notice that three days is what will make them clean.
That three days is what will give them, cleanse them, will consecrate their clothes.
For when Jesus came, He was sacrificed on the cross and remained three days in the tomb.
That, this, His sacrifice, His three days, would clean their clothes.
Giving all people who believe in Jesus Christ, first the cleansing that we needed, that cleanses our very souls.
Then God says then the King will come down the mountain.
That God will come to us.
That Him coming down covers us with the new clothes of eternal life, clothes us with God’s purity, clothes us with the wedding clothes of eternity, the clothes that cover our shameful nakedness, the clothes that cover us with His, Jesus’s holiness.
Now Jesus at this time in Exodus, had not yet come in this form of sacrifice.
So God forewarns them if they try to come up the mountain, if they try to touch the mountain in their own strength, they will die.
For God was preparing all people to know that we cannot earn, force, make our way to God.
That we can only receive what He did for us.
Since Jesus and His fullness of purpose had not yet been completed, these people were not allowed in God’s presence.
They suffered to be our examples, that when Jesus came we would believe and receive.
That we would get to enter God’s presence, today, tomorrow and forever.
May we know that we know that we know Jesus offers all people His sacrifice, that everyone and anyone receive the clean new clothes of Heavenly Holiness from Jesus Christ, and access to our Father’s presence at anytime.
May we know that we know that we know there is only one way to God’s presence, by receiving the complete work of Jesus Christ on the cross.
May we be filled that we be filled that we filled with the deepest gratitude for those who went before us, that did not get to walk in the fullness of this season but served to be a chosen example, that everyone after them be blessed eternally.
