Jesus Struck
Those Called Blessed For Our Eyes See Who He Is!
Those Called Blessed For Our Ears Hear His Truth!
But If I spoke the truth then why did you strike me? John 18: 23
Jesus was being questioned by the Pharisees.
They were questioning Him about His words.
They were questioning Him about His ministry.
They were questioning Him about His actions.
They were looking for a reason to condemn Him.
Jesus had answered the High Priest telling him, to go ask others.
That He had not done anything in secret.
That others could testify of Him.
And one of the followers of the High Priest struck Jesus in the face.
This was only the beginning of the violence against Jesus this night.
That He was going to be crucified and die.
But that they started the abuse with striking Him.
I remember reading this thinking, they hit God in the face.
That they hit Him on the head.
But I realized later that this was God’s mercy.
That this was God’s provision.
For this action, after Jesus rising, should have reminded all the people of Israel of Moses and Exodus.
For Jesus claimed to be God.
Which is why they wanted to kill Him.
And Who is God but our Rock.
That God is constantly compared and called a rock all throughout scripture.
So here we see a man, who claimed be God, the Rock, being struck.
He then dying on the cross.
That this would have reminded all of them being saved in the wilderness.
That it would have reminded them all of Moses.
That it would have reminded them all of Moses, striking the rock in the desert of sin.
That it would have reminded them all of how that released rivers of living waters to all of Israel to freely drink.
That it would have reminded them all of how that saved them in the desert from dying.
That all of these people at that time, would see this connection.
That they would see that Jesus is the rock being struck in their desert of sin.
That they would see that Jesus is bringing forth their rivers of living waters that they need to survive the desert of life.
That they would receive Jesus, and His rivers of living waters.
That Jesus even asking this man, why did you strike me, was actually Jesus showing mercy to this man.
That He would remember this connection.
For Jesus was only asking this question, that he, that we, would all be pointed to this fact, that He was the rock struck.
That He was bringing forth the rivers of living water that we all need.
That we would all see this connection.
That we would all believe and receive Him.
That we will all receive His rivers of living waters that gives us life in this desert.
May we know that we know that we know everything Jesus did and said has a purpose and a meaning that we can learn something powerful.
May we know that we know that we know Jesus is the rock struck in the desert of sin, that brings all who believe rivers of living water of eternal life.
May we know that we know that we know Jesus is merciful not wanting any to perish but all to be saved, all to see these truths, that all have eternal life with Him in His Kingdom forever.
