I tore the kingdom away from David and gave it to you, but you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commands and followed me with all his heart, doing only what was right in my eyes. 1 Kings 8: 3
God’s love language is obedience.
That we were born in a backwards kingdom.
This land, this world being turned away from God and His life-giving ways at Eden.
And every person born since.
That we were all born with the heart, a mind bent in the wrong direction since then.
It’s why God gave us the Bible.
That we would know the right way, the life-giving ways to live.
That we would know the way to be full of joy and energy.
That we would know the way to live in peace without fear or inner striving.
It’s why God sent us Jesus.
That we receive the new heart.
That we receive the new mind.
That we be led to obey God.
The king in this story losing, was losing because he didn’t know that God was good.
The king in this story losing, was losing because he didn’t trust God, who gave him the throne in the first place.
The king in this story losing, was losing because he didn’t know the exquisite power we hold when we surrender and obey the Maker of Heaven and Earth, the Ancient of Days, the One who knows where every bird keeps their nest, where every ant is cutting back leaves, where every fish is bubbling air to the surface,
Because in obeying God there is a blessing.
First with eternal life in a place without death, pain or suffering or loss.
Then as we learn to walk in obedience in this life, to Him, we get to know Him.
Then we find that He is actually good.
We find that His ways are actually good for us.
We find that surrendering to His ways are so much better and more amazing than our ways, our plans.
We find that obeying His ways release us from brokenness, from internal suffering, from anxiety, from fear.
We find that our God, our Father, our Savior are active daily in our lives.
We find that our God, our Father, our Savior are actively seeking to help, to lead us, to get us to what will satisfy so much more in this life, than what we—what I thought—would satisfy me.
May we know that we know that we know the value in receiving Jesus is this life, now, today, forever.
May we know that we know that we know that even if we don’t see the value in Him, this offering, if we simply ask Him to show us, reveal this to us, to help us to believe, He will.
May we know that we know that we know that for those around us completely unwilling to hear this truth and utterly lost to this truth, that we can pray for them, knowing that God will faithfully call them, for God loves them more than we do.
